Aggie87 Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Anybody notice that Blue Note has a new Street Team. There's a link on their website for The Messengers site. It's interesting, because they seem to be pimping their non-jazz music more than the jazz stuff. The Messengers ...is a collective of music enthusiasts out to spread the word about today’s most intriguing and satisfying music. Blue Note Records has historically presented the “Finest in Jazz” to its patrons. In its present incarnation, Blue Note, Angel, and Manhattan Records not only continue that tradition, but create a new one with the progressive sounds of straight-ahead and crossover artists who evoke memories of past great musicians while conveying a sound all their own. The Little Willies, Wood Bros, Richard Julian, Amos Lee, Raul Midon, Anoushka Shankar (isn't her dad someone famous?), Brisa Roche, Robert Glasper, & Mutlu. That's who they're pushing. Granted, it's for Angel & Manhattan Records too, but man, they seem to be turning their back on their "real" jazz offerings for this Street Team thing. PS - I tried to search for a previous Street Team thread or discussion, but the dang Search AIN'T working for me. Quote
montg Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 The ratio of decent jazz releases to pop has changed dramatically in the last year or two. Rather than the Norah Jones windfall 'subsidizing' jazz, it appears that the Norah Jones succss has just made them hungrier for more of the same Quote
