mrjazzman Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 (edited) Anybody buy the Dizzy Gillespie Phillips/Verve Small Group Sessions besides me? I'm somewhat dissapointed as I already had probably the best titles(Have Trumpet Will Excite, An Electrifying Evening With The Dizzy Gillespie Quintet, Something Old, Something New, The Cool World/Dizzy Goes Hollywood, and Diz and Getz still available on cd and the LP's New Wave and The Greatest Trumpet Of Them All) of the lot. I could be wrong but the quality/content of the unavailable stuff(A Portrait Of Duke Ellington[i beleive only 2 cuts], Dizzy On The French Riviera, The Ebullient Mr. Gillespie, Jazz Recital, Dizzy Gillespie And His Orchestra and a cut or 2 from Johhny Hodges - Jazz Masters), IMO, didn't warrant the making of this Mosaic................ jazzbo Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 I'll disagree: I think there was good reason to release this set. Not all this material has been on US cd or remained on US cd in print. Not all of it is essential Diz but it's nicely assembled, I think the sound is great, and it's a set I'm enjoying. (I too had most all the sessions in hand beforehand; I knew what I was getting).
