ghost of miles Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 (edited) For our L.A.-area posters--just got this message from Steve Isoardi: Hello everyone! This is a quick message to let you know about upcoming performances by the amazing tenor and soprano saxophonist Azar Lawrence -- May 2, Wed., 8:30 pm -- Catalina's Bar & Grill, 6725 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood; 323 466 2210. This will be a CD release party for Azar's new recording on Clarion Jazz, a live performance with the Edwin Bayard Quartet that is a tribute to the "Legacy and Music of John Coltrane." He will be performing with Nate Morgan, piano; Trevor Ware, bass; and Ndugu Chancler, drums. May 20, Sunday, 2 pm -- Mimi Melnick's jazz salon at her home in the Encino Hills. Azar will perform with Nate Morgan, piano; Jeff Littleton, bass; and Fritz Wise, drums. Azar's re-emergence over the last two years has been one of the great stories in LA music, and he's blowing his ass off! Spread the word! Steve Isoardi Edited May 1, 2007 by ghost of miles Quote
Allan Songer Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 Blowing his ass off INDEED. I have caught two of his shows at Charlie O's, another at a little club in Long Beach next to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles and some informal stuff at the World Stage. Azar is sounding better than ever. I'll be there Wednesday, but probably not until the second set . . . Quote
