I'm thinking of buying a Sony 27" flat screen backed up by a Cambridge Soundworks sound system.

To wit:

EC.SON.KD27FS170.JPG $140.00

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Tanx!

I've had Cambridge surround systems for the last 20 years and am quite happy with them. Must admit however that I haven't bought anything new for the last couple of years and I have a (perhaps unsubstantiated) feeling that they have gone a bit down hill since Henry Kloss died.

I know you can't beat the price if that $140 tv is correct, but I'd put the $500 for the sound system into a bigger, wider, HD ready TV and forget about surround sound until later.

Not that I really know what I'm talking about, but I agree with this advice. We have a TV almost like the one pictured. Its nice, but we wish it had a bigger screen or at least full width so movies would show full screen and/or without the black bars at the top and bottom.

There are literally hundreds of surround sound receivers available on eBay at any given time. Home theater is hugely popular and lots of people need to have the latest and greatest stuff so there's lots of turnover in good used gear.

If it were me, I'd investigate some good receivers that are 2-3 years old, also buy used speakers, and put the majority of my budget into the TV.
