Alexander Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Amazing Britpop debut that channels Elton John and Queen. Best tracks are "Grace Kelly," "Billy Brown," and "Big Girl (You are Beautiful)." If you like your pop outrageous, this is a great album! "Go on down to the Butterfly Lounge, get yourself a big lady..." Quote
BruceH Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Sounds a little too outrageous for me... Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 (edited) Had to put music together for a sixth grade dance last week and "Grace Kelly" was on the submitted suggestion list but I forgot and never checked it out. Big w/ da kidds. Thank goodness I was remiss. A bit too much Castrati Queeniness in there for me. Now about this Mark Ronson guy, anyone??? "oh, my god" cartoon. Van Basten II Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 (edited) I heard it on the music store, did not get the disease, little too much over the top for my tastes, i prefer Lily Allen. Edited June 19, 2007 by Van Basten II Quote
Alexander Posted June 20, 2007 Author Report Posted June 20, 2007 I heard it on the music store, did not get the disease, little too much over the top for my tastes, i prefer Lily Allen. Funny. I got both "Life in Cartoon Motion" and "Alright, Still" at about the same time. I like them both, but think that Mika has an overall better album than Lily. Some of her tracks groove like hell, but others come off as filler. I don't think there's a bit of filler on Mika's album... Quote
Van Basten II Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 You're right in terms of overall quality, Allen has some weak tracks on her album, i think Mika is one of those artists who has a sound that you either love or want to beat the shit out of him. Quote

I agree. Since Mika is most obviously emulating Freddie Mercury, that's a fair assessment: people either loved Freddie or wanted to beat him up. There was no in between. Quote
