Has anyone read/looked at this book? From descriptions I've read, it's evidently filled with rare photographs of the S.F. jazz scene.

I have, and corresponded with one of teh writers. It is quite nice; mostly pictures.

I just bought this book at a local record store closing down one of their locations-a bargain at 50% off.

I grew up near San Francisco-unfortunately, the Fillmore jazz scene had long since ended before the 1960's.

When I was growing up there, Basin Street West had closed down but the El Matador and Great American Music Hall had jazz.

The North Beach topless scene put an end to the jazz clubs there. I fondly remember Keystone Korner also.

Now there is only Yoshi's in Oakland and Jazz at Pearls in the City.

Last I heard Kimball's was no longer in business.

The title refers to the Fillmore District and the book is not only about the music that was harbored there, but how it was a part of the comminity and everyday life.

I think the title is apt, having read the book.
