Just a friendly invite for all the Kansas City locals (and anybody passing through Kansas City in mid-November), since I was just about to send this release out to the local jazz rag.

This will be the 6th(!) concert that I've produced since January of this year, on my relatively by now "relatively new" Jazz & Beyond concert series. A couple folks here on the board have been to a number of the concerts (one even having been the headliner on one!), so I'll let them comment on what they think of the series so far -- the music, and the venue (the hippest Unitarian Universalist church in KC). I'll just say that I think this series has the real potential to be one of the more exciting things to hit the local jazz scene in Kansas City in some time. (Or maybe it already is.)

Brandon Draper CD Release and Live Recording Event!

Jazz & Beyond proudly presents The Brandon Draper New Quintet, on Sat., Nov. 17th at 7:30 PM at All Souls 'UU' Church. The arrival of extraordinary drummer and composer Brandon Draper to Kansas City this past year has been a major cause for celebration. Draper's "New" group will feature Rich Wheeler: tenor sax; Kevin Cerovich: trombone; John Brewer: keyboards; Ben Leifer: bass, and special guest Jake Blanton: guitar.

Nov. 17th will debut the group's first self-titled studio recording, and the night will also be recorded 'live' for their second release! Tickets only $10 at the door. For more info, contact Tom Buck at 816-931-6415. All Souls is located at 4501 Walnut, one block east of 45th and Main in Kansas City, MO.

PS: I might also mention this quote (from and by me) from a recent e-mail exchange...

Having heard Brandon in a number of different contexts over the last several months, I am incredibly proud to be presenting this concert on the Jazz & Beyond series. He's clearly among a small handful of the very best drummers I've ever heard in KC, and that includes all the 'national' talent I've heard here over the years too.

Yep, he's THAT good. Here's his bio, from his web-site...

Brandon was a student of mine for a couple of years here in ABQ, and we played quite a few gigs together, both during and after his time in school.

He's a very creative musician, and brings really positive energy to all of his projects. I'm sure it will be a great concert! :tup
