Hot Ptah Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 I enjoy Little Brother Montgomery's Document CD, "Complete Recorded Works 1930-36" very much. That is the only Little Brother Montgomery album in my collection. What should I buy next? What do you recommend? Quote
John L Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 The disc that you already have is my favorite. But I think that you would probably also enjoy the few records that he made later for Riverside and Prestige. Quote
paul secor Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) There's a good later Little Brother Montgomery recording that's been reissued by Wolf - La Salle Chicago Blues Recordings Vol. 1 - originally on the English 77 label back in the 60's, and first reissued by Southland - the issue I have. Half of the record is by Little Brother Montgomery and the other half is by Sunnyland Slim. Perhaps of passing interest - Little Brother played on Magic Sam's first Cobra session and on Buddy Guy's first Chess session. edit - Have to admit that I've never been a big Little Brother Montgomery fan. This dates back to 1965, when I went to hear him in a club in New York and he played and sang "Hello Dolly" and other pop tunes - big disappointment. Edited September 28, 2007 by paul secor Quote
Christiern Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Perhaps also of passing interest, the Riverside album has a vocal ("Oh, Daddy") by Elaine McFarland, then a very nervous young beginner who soon would be recording hits with her pop group, Spanky and Our Gang. Quote
