randyhersom
I already have the superb one disk Ichiban anthology, but I just sent off for the 3 disk Rhino Handmade box set above. It includes a jazz oriented set with Oliver Nelson which is omitted from the Ichiban disk. Her Many Rivers to Cross is a thing to behold. Wish she stayed around. I have some of Lorraine Ellison's Warner Brothers recordings on LP and CD - wonderful singer. I hope you'll post your impressions of the Rhino Handmade after you've had a chance to live with it. randyhersom
First listen at work to disc 1 including the Oliver Nelson sides led to a very favorable impression. Yeah I know it wasn't exactly where her heart was at, but putting a great singer together with good to great songs and a good band is rare enough in this world.
