Thank you alocispepraluger102. A friend I spoke with since posting my query has suggested that I also check out the free offerings at:

http://www.mp3mymp3.com/index.html

and

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Now suffering from an embarrassment of riches,

Rupe

Add: Groan... Suffering is right. I've now tried the above two programs with no success (on my computer, with my soundcard). YMMV. I'll report back when I get something working.

I'm good to go!

What I did:

1) Downloaded (free) Winamp music player. This was necessary because Windows Media Player (what I have been using) cannot open the file type (.pls) that is required to access the WKCR mp3 stream. I can assure all Winamp is very well regarded by those who I believe are "in the know".

2) Downloaded (free) Streamripper (Winamp plug-in).

3) Fiddled around until I realized I had to give the computer instructions ("Default Programs" in Windows Vista) to associate pls and mp3 files with Winamp.

4) Fiddled around, ended up at the Streamripper Forum, used the Search function to quickly find the answer to a snag I had run into, and,

5) To my (no small) surprise- found things to work as advertised.

All in all, I've been through a lot worse trying to get a new program up and running.

Thanks for your help and suggestions,

Rupe

P.S. I will be recording the "Transfigured Night" shows on WKCR early morning Sarurday 3/9 and 3/16 when the music of Alexander von Schlippenbach will be featured.

I used to love these kinds of things, but sometimes when I listen...I find I'm listening to something I already own. They do serve an educational void for those who need it. I'll tune in later and maybe there will be something I haven't heard before.

Before I owned a CD copy, I used to make a fresh tape of Chaupaqua Suite every few years.
:g

That's an amazing recording! Thanks for reminding me... I'll have to pull it out and play some on the radio show tonight. Haven't been able to check out the WKCR feed though. Drat!
