BillF Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 So sorry to hear of his passing. I knew his name from the 1957 album Howard Rumsey Presents Conte Candoli & Lee Morgan: Double or Nothing, but otherwise knew nothing of the career which the obituary outlines. Quote
marcello Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Those Verve records are some of my favorites. I used to think that his name would be perfect for period British novel. Quote
Swinging Swede Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Middlebrooks is on the recently OOP Hodges Mosaic. Quote
BillF Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 I used to think that his name would be perfect for period British novel. I know what you mean. I feel the same about the name George Wallington. (He was originally Giacinto Figlia, BTW) Quote
ValerieB Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 i was fortunate to hear Mr. Middlebrooks many times while he was "subbing" for Larry Gales in a Santa Monica restaurant/piano bar duo. this may have been in the '80s. the place is no longer even there. sorry to hear about his passing. Michael Weiss Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 I had the pleasure of playing trio with Wilfred and Billy Higgins in LA about ten years ago. Definitely one of the best names in jazz. Quote
