Christiern Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 (edited) It was a beautiful day in New York for an early Cinco de Mayo parade past my house. Edited May 4, 2008 by Christiern Quote
GA Russell Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 As I understand it, Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday celebrating the Mexican army's victory over the American army in a particular battle. If that's the case, it should become more well known in the US that that is the case, and obviously it should be discouraged although not outlawed of course. Quote
Dave Garrett Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Uh, no. It's a commemoration of the Mexican victory over French forces in the battle of Puebla. It's a much bigger deal in the US than in Mexico, as for Mexican-Americans it's become analogous to what St. Patrick's Day is for Irish-Americans. Quote
GA Russell Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Well Dave, if you're sure you are right, I guess a victory over the French can't be all bad! Quote
