JSngry
Saw this double CD bootleg the other day at a local emporium. Claims to be a soundboard recording from '73. Might have been on the allegedly French "Pinups" label (the store had several other items on this label, including a Mingus thing that turned out to be identical to the France's Concert label disc of a few years ago, and some Miles/Fillmore stuff not on Columbia). A bootleg of 1973 vintage is something that may or may not be of good sound quality, so I'm asking the collectors here if they know anything about this particular item. As always, thanks in advance. Michael Fitzgerald
If this is September 19, 1973, it is in circulation. The title it goes under is "Between Failure and Frustration." Just trade for it - never pay. Mike
JSngry
Gotcha. Is the sound quality "acceptable" by 1973 bootleg standards?
Michael Fitzgerald
I learned that this is NOT the same show. 9/19/73 was Shibuyakokaido, Tokyo, Japan. 9/28/73 was Budokan, Tokyo, Japan. Good reference tool: http://www.angelfire.com/jazz/jmweb/MOsl.html Sound on 9/19/73 is great, fwiw. Mike
kdd
Budakahn is OK both sound quality wise and performance. Nothing special, this was towards the end when they were starting to hate each other. I think I've seen it as a 3 CD set. Between Failure and Frustration is a 2 CD set from a different concert on the same tour of Japan. Same thing, the magic isn't quite there anymore. The bootlegs you should look for if you don't already have them are Wild Strings, Live in Cleveland 1972 and Irish Streams Live in Denver 1973. Cleveland is incredible, unbelievable in fact. There's also one from LA (Whiskey a Go Go) that's good. Edited October 16, 2003 by kdd
