Soul Stream Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 I'm looking at a new CD put out by organist Bobby Pierce on Pete Fallico's Doodlin' label and realize the drummer is the one and only Clarence Johnston! The badass drummer from Freddie Roach's "Mo Greens Please" "Down To Earth" "All That's Good" "Good Move"....and George Braith's "Extension" among others. Wow, I'm blown away. This Bobby Pierce CD is great, I didn't know much about him...but to find out Clarence Johnston is still around and playing blows me away. Quote
Niko Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) iirc i saw johnston's name more than once on recent cds... for now all i can add is that he's on one trackj of daniel jackson's cd "life is but a dream" http://cdbaby.com/cd/jacksondaniel3 (fine cd though i wouldn't get it just for four minutes of johnston's drumming (in a trio with jackson on tenor and art hillary on organ)) a similar surprise (at least for me) recently was this dan fogel cd on cdbaby which has billy james on drums http://cdbaby.com/cd/fogel3 some more surprising names on this one http://cdbaby.com/cd/clarence including johnston and horace tapscott veterans ed pleasant and ike williams...
