GA Russell Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 After years of reading how respected it is, I subscribed to it for a year about twenty years ago. I don't want to diss it, but I didn't think it was that big a deal. I enjoyed it enough to read every issue, but I didn't look forward to receiving it, if you know what I mean. Still, as a daily newspaper reader, I think it's a real loss for the country that the number of newspapers has declined so during my lifetime. On the other hand, I've been scratching my head for years wondering what the publishers are thinking about. For the past 25 years, more Americans have identified themselves in polls as conservative than liberal (something like 36 to 28%), yet everywhere I've lived the newspaper has been liberal. I think every metro would be a better place if it had both a liberal and a conservative newspaper to compete against one another. Quote
papsrus Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 The internet. The daily paper had a good run, but it's coming to an end. Eventually every paper will be online only. It only makes sense from a cost perspective and number of eyeballs perspective. Once the tipping point is reached with advertising, they'll all roll over one after another. the end. Quote
