Guest youmustbe Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Funny thing, his Prokofiev 5th piano concrto recording on Vox from 50's? is the only recording of that work that makes 'sense'. Even Richter couldn't do it. Also his recording of the Schoenberg is the same. But his 'regular' repertoire is boring because he is a boring human being. I know him vaguely thru my brother. But to paraphrase Othello.. "He did the state some service." Quote
AllenLowe Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I respect Brendel, but I wouldn't go overboard on his importance as a player. I've heard a lot of his records and they're really not much in the scheme of things. Unless you're black and have a thing for neglected white classical musicians who have 7 toes on their left foot. BruceH Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 Never been a big fan. Don't know why. Maybe it's me. Quote
