****Richmond’s own (and lauded) Fight the Big Bull, accompanied by with Steven Bernstein, and with the No BS Brass Band will be playing the first show ever at the refurbished Robinson Theater Community Arts Center on Saturday, February 20 in Church Hill. This is a free show, I believe. Here's a link. Note the date is wrong. This is going to be on FRIDAY.

As a reminder, FIGHT THE BIG BULL has an album available through Clean Feed Records.

Link to Clean Feed website.

They played at The Stone last year during Steven Bernstein's month as curator.

They played with Ken Vandermark at The Hungry Brain last year as well.

This time around, Steven Bernstein is making the trip down to Richmond. Following the live performances, he will be with the band all week for rehearsals and studio sessions resulting in their second full-length record.

The evening was a great success for all involved. Great music. Sold-out attentive audience. Fantastic.

The first band, Glows In The Dark, recorded their set. A little short on bass, but here it is for those that are interested.

Here is a link to their site, which includes mp3's of the set.

p.s. By all accounts, the Fight the Big Bull/Steven Bernstein sets were incredible. I was there for Friday and Saturday nights, and they played again on Wednesday night after many long days in rehearsal and recordings.

I'll keep the board posted with a release date from Clean Feed.

and Boots of Leather... wow. A powerful trio, to be sure. Possibly the highlight of the evening for me, never having heard them live before. Brian Jones is a force.

You can check out more of Brian Jones' work at Slang Sanctuary.

I personally own and can recommend Blue Book, duets between Brian Jones and JC Kuhl, and M.A.P. Trio, JC Kuhl, Cameron Ralston, Brian Jones.

Many of you may find this music to your liking. I know you've never heard these names before, which is all the more reason to lend am ear.

Note, this is not hard-bop derived jazz music.
