TedR Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 A wonderful neighbor of ours is scheduled to have his stomach removed after a malignant growth was found. That, alone, is life changing and frightening enough. This morning his wife told me they also found a mass on his lung that will be biopsied. For comfort or distraction or both I listened to "My Favorite Things" and "Impressions" from Newport '63. For me, in this circumstance, Coltrane's music expresses the frustration, anger, helplessness and prayer I'm feeling. I listened to a lot of Coltrane's music when my father was very ill last year. Guest Bill Barton Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Same here... I probably would have gone completely bonkers while stationed in Vietnam in 1970-1971 if I hadn't listened (over and over and over...) to "My Favorite Things" and "Syeeda's Song Flute ," among others. A Love Supreme always speaks to me. There was a period of time in the late 1970s when it was literally all I listened to, many times per day. And it's still fresh every time I hear it. Quote
