AllenLowe Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Mike was a nice guy with a good sense of humor and was a fine musician as well - not to mention that his mother was one of the most important of American composers, Ruth Crawford Seeger. We were actually talking a few years ago about doing a recording project, which we never got together. Good guy, who did a LOT for American music and recorded a lot of important old time performers. AllenLowe Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 (edited) great composer - early modernist - I particularly like the quartets and some of the piano music - Edited August 11, 2009 by AllenLowe Quote
7/4 Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 great composer - early modernist - I particularly like the quartets and some of the piano music - I like her too, but I'm not sure that makes her "one of the most important of American composers". I would think her work with folk music is notable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_Crawford_Seeger She sure knew and worked with some important people, it's a shame she died so young (52) from cancer. AllenLowe Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 I actually prefer the more atonal pieces - the piano stuff is quite personal and interesting; I think she's a major - Quote
