alocispepraluger102 Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 (edited) monty kelly, not a jazz artist as i recall, did some really nice orchestral arrrangements in the late 1950s utilizing topflite jazz musicians. many popular music arrangements grow stale as they age. many of kelly's today are still fresh, at least to me. his recording of porgy and bess i find quite enjoyable. some of the big band uptempo numbers are really outstanding. i'm sure many savvy organissimo-types have some info on trumpeter-arranger monty kelly. Teasing the Korean Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 I had a budget label album by him called "Tropicana" that struck me at the time as a lukewarm Les Baxter knockoff. I don't think I kept it. I think he did arranging for 101 Strings sessions. Quote
