The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Two Kandia Kouyate CDs have been issued this year by Syllart Records. They are available through Sterns. The first to come out was “Ngara”, issued in June. In August, Syllart issued “Amary Daou” These are not recent recordings. They purport to be compilations of material from her first two LPs. But it’s not quite as simple as that. For one thing, discographers are in some doubt as to when her first two LPs came out or were recorded. Amary Daou presents Kandia Kouyate – Amary Daou AD001 is dated as 1983 or 1984. Le grande vedette Malienne et L’Ensemble Instrumental du Mali – KS232 or Disco Stock 7220 is dated 1986 or 1983. And the sleeve notes to “Ngara” date the recording to 1981. And she recorded “OUA” (Bolibana) in late 1982 or early 1983, for the March 1983 meeting of heads of state of the Organisation of African Unity. Anyway, this material is early eighties. Well… some of it is. But, to make things more interesting, the track list provided for “Amary Daou” on the Sterns site is wrong – Amazon UK have what looks like the right listing on their MP3 site, which is what I’ve used to piece these two releases together. “Amary Daou” CD tracks and sources Balassama 7:41…………… “Amary Daou” LP Nyamadyla 6:37…………… “Amary Daou” LP Kandia Nana 6:00 ………… “Amary Daou” LP Ouale gnoumandon 5:14 … “Amary Daou” LP Bronkoly 7:09 ……………… “Amary Daou” LP Mayomba 14:47 …………… “Le grande vedette” LP Saradigan 11:24 …………... “Le grande vedette” LP Guede 13:08 ………………. “Le grande vedette” LP “Ngara” CD tracks and sources Kandia Djeli Nana 6:50……. Unissued 1999 recording Sora 9:35 …………………… Unissued 1999 recording Bouka 10:34 ……………….. Unissued 1999 recording Douwawou 7:06 …………… “Kita kan” CD Doninke 7:13 ...……………. “Kita kan” CD Sarama 6:54 ………………. “Amary Daou” LP Yolele 14:43 ……………….. “Le grande vedette” LP “Douwawou” and “Doninke” are supposed to have been recorded at the same sessions as the three unissued performances. These two tracks are the only ones on “Kita kan” that had not previously been issued on Syllart’s K7 “Woulale”. I hope this is helpful. These are BRILLIANT recordings! MG Quote
