Tom 1960 Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 (edited) Live At The Falcon This unique club has been up and running for some time now with little fanfare till recently. It's located about 60 or so miles north of NY City in Marlboro, New York. About 30 minutes south from where I live. The owner has been courting jazz musicians and other music genres to perform at his club. From what I understand, there is no set ticket price for the shows although people are sort of expected to leave money in a hat. At least that's what my friend tells me. The upcoming schedule looks to be interesting with the Fred Hersch date sounding the most intriguing. Although, I have to admit knowing little of Hersch. Any thoughts? kh1958 Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Jean Michel Pilc's appearance on January 15 would be one I would try to attend, based on hearing him at Small's and the 55 Bar . Featuring: Jean-Michel Pilc - Piano, Francois Moutin - Bass, Billy Drummond - Drums & J.D. Allen - Sax. Quote
marcello Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 There's a a lot of great musicians on the schedule. I think that Freed Hersch is one of the truly great pianists. I know both Dominick Farinacci and Edmar Castanneda and they are wonderful musicians. You won't be disappointed. And yes, go hear Jean Michel Pilc with another friend of mine, the equally wonderful Francois Moutin. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted February 7, 2010 Author Report Posted February 7, 2010 I just wanted to plug this site once more since I was fortunate to attend the Fred Hersch show there last night. Very good show I will add. What a great venue for jazz music among other music. It was a packed house for Fred. I have to figure there must have been between 100 - 120 people in attendance. I don't think I saw an empty seat, at least during the first set. The owner who seems to be a very decent guy seemed to be overwhelmed and humbled by the large turnout. Not the norm for most shows there. I remember him saying they ran out of food. Realising this is a global forum, if any folks in the neighboring vicinity are withing reasonable driving distance, I would wholehearedly recommend they check out some of the upcoming shows. I had a 45 minute drive and it was well worth the trip. Quote
