Lazaro Vega Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Was talking to trumpeter Dennis Gonzalesz of Texas not too long ago and he mentioned how few improvising trumpeters there were out there, in jazz or creative music. Here in west Michigan, though, and across the state, there's a bunch of them. Tonight in Grand Rapids you could hear two fine players, Eddie Curtis and Chris Lawrence, who owe a stylistic debt to Chet Baker. Chet is our featured artist tonight on Jazz From Blue Lake, though the recordings we're playing will not be what you'd expect. In December we programmed a retrospective on his earlier music, so tonight we're diving into the 1970's and 1980's recordings he made, mostly. Don't usually go there, so, should be an adventure. Please join us tonight from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. via http://bluelake.ncats.net/ Then Saturday morning for a conversation and music with Tierney Sutton, who appears in Grand Rapids next Thursday, from 8 to 10 a.m. Thanks to the O!
