Shawn Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Definitely. I still miss living in Seattle from time to time. I remember when Earshot was going on, interesting people always showed up at Jazz Alley and sat in with whoever was there. One time it was Frank Wess who showed up in time to sit in with Hank Crawford & Jimmy McGriff for a set, always great to be around for moments like that. Quote
BeBop Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 ...and why I miss Seattle. Throw in a little Bumbershoot for the pop-pier crowd, and a good time was had by all. Quote
sidewinder Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 One of the most enjoyable gigs I ever saw was Stanley Turrentine at Jazz Alley. Quote

sidewinder Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 (edited) One of the most enjoyable gigs I ever saw was Stanley Turrentine at Jazz Alley. Yep, I saw him there as well. Don't remember the year, it was shortly before he passed away, he was touring with Kenny Drew Jr. on piano. Around 1993/94 I think. Not sure if Kenny Drew Jr. was in the band - it was more of a fusion lineup. Great show though - and great club ! I think I've mentioned this on the board before but a few years later (around 1997/98) I was driving through a pretty remote bit of Scotland on business (near Culloden ) and drove past a home-made sign saying 'Concert in Village Hall Tonight - Stanley Turrentine, jazz' with an arrow sign leading down a quiet country track. Eyes almost popped out of their sockets ! Sadly, I had to catch the plane back South later that afternoon, otherwise I would have checked out Stanley's 'Braveheart/Highland Fling' session.
