Nothing has vanished so far from any of my playlists, that I have noticed, but some things I am sure I listened to seem to be gone. I just went to look for a new release on Intakt, thinking I had heard at least a recent Sylvie Courvoisier title from Intakt on there: no Intakt releases at all. In one or two other cases I got the impression that a chunk of stuff went awol. Other boutique labels are still being added, I think, but I am wondering if some try it out, see the revenue is extemely low (next to nothing), and pull. I know that ECM micro-manages what it shows, so some material is 'there' but you can't access it, but what I am noticing is not strategic suspension of albums or tracks but (I think) disappearance of whole labels. Has anyody noticed this on their service? My service is Spotify.

I now notice that ECM has pulled its titles from Spotify. There are a dozen left they probably missed. Universal classics are still there. I don't use a paid subscription so maybe the stuff is there if you pay, but I wouldn't feel too sure about that. ECM went through a phase of making longer tracks on some CDs unavailable for streaming. Seems that didn't get the results they wanted so they pulled. Hm.

I liked Spotify in its early days, but now the intrusive adverts are too much to bear, so I rarely listen. Its main function anyway was to allow me to check out potential album purchases, so now I use brief samples available on other sites. Amazon.com is more likely to offer samples than amazon.uk, but if this fails, allmusic.com is another good source.

Spotify user too. Certainly noticed the ECM 'withdrawals' and also some of the Intakts. But for a free service I'm not about to argue with them. There's still plenty to discover - recently found Aurora by Augusti Fernandez et al.

I also use it for pre-purchase checks if possible and have had fun checking out non-jazz albums from various end-of-year polls - about the only way I keep in touch with dance/indie scenes these days.

There was an interesting piece in the Guardian, i think, recently about Spotify's operating loss this year - can't remember the figure but it was whopping - conclusion seemd to be calling into question their viability for opertaing as is for much longer
