BERIGAN Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 Don't think you have to be a fan of hers to find it interesting. First off, she does NOT sound 88! Voice wise, or mind wise. I find it so interesting hearing people like her that seem to (almost)never want to return to the work that was such a big part of their lives at one time... some interesting stories are tossed in about her making her first movie, a very serious car accident she was in as a teenager, Sinatra, etc, etc, etc...The host is annoying at times, but she must like him a lot, since she rarely does anything like this. http://culture.wnyc.org/articles/features/2010/oct/30/celebrating-hollywood-legend-doris-day/ Quote
AllenLowe Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 she just happens to be my favorite singer - check out the late '40s Columbias; as a matter of fact, I'm just about to record my new hit, "The Last Embrace: Ode to Doris Day" Quote
Christiern Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 Assuming that this is about Jonathan Schwartz's interview with Doris Day, she was great (I always was a fan). She also instigated the interview, being a fan of Schwartz's show. He, of course, is the son of Arthur Schwartz, a prolific songwriter who, with lyricist Howard Dietz, wrote such standards as Dancing in the Dark, Alone Together, and I Guess I'll Have to Change My Plan. He, of course, is the son of Arthur Schwartz, a prolific songwriter who, with lyricist Howard Dietz, wrote such standards as Dancing in the Dark, Alone Together, and I Guess I'll Have to Change My Plan. He's also one of the biggest name dropping bores in the world. I used to listen him on WNEW am,WNYC and on XM radio and Sirius and I'v heard some of the same stories dozens of times. But he does play some jazz, especially Ella, Billie Holiday and Art Tatum Quote
Christiern Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 I agree, he is a bit hard to take and he could have made the interview more interesting. He is also too hung up on Sinatra, in my opinion. I like Sinatra, but never thought that he walked on water. Yes, he can throw in some fine jazz, but he also often reveals a terrible taste in his choice of singer, usually ones we have—for good reason—not heard of. Of course, I personally can't stand Sondheim's songs (with one or two exceptions) and when they are sung by Mandy or Bernadette, I may even become nauseous. I do, however, greatly admire Doris Day, so I listened to the interview both times when he aired it. Quote
