Circulating Tune "Let Me Ask"

Received a tune today via email called "Let Me Ask" with the chorus "Why do the biggest assholes end up running the music world?". It's a Les McCann-ish "Compared To What"-ish groove, and the vocalist sounds like a really hoarse/worn out Ben Sidran.

Has anybody else heard this, and if so, can confirmation be provided as to the actual artist?

The artist is Mephiskapheles and was an Internet-exclusive track offered for download on their website. I downloaded this track from their website in October of 2002, which was after the group stopped touring. I've tried to contact the band via email about this track for official credits, but never got a response.

You're welcome! I was revisiting the track last week and this was the *only* thing I could find (or google could find) that even mentions the track. It was released untitled, so I had only the chorus as my best bet.

I hope this isn't too late to do anyone any good, but for anyone who stumbles across this post (like I did), the song in question is called "Let Me Ask You a Question" by Joe & The Shmos. It's available on Apple Music on their 2022 collection, "Vintage Shmos". I loved it the first time I heard it. Sounded a bit like Michael Franks to my ears. Enjoy.
