So on a hunch I put a copy controlled disk in the PC, opened WMP, and clicked rip. It ripped. This was a disk that previously installed its own player and tried to play on that. It couldn't even be played on WMP let alone ripped (PS this is why in Europe we all hate EMI). So I guess after cc was dropped the software writers just put in a work-around. In any case the OS and software in use now is already probably not compatible with the CC cr*p. End of story - but what a crock.

That's interesting. I'm not sure I even own any CC CDs. If I do, I'll have to try this.
