imeanyou Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 I picked up a used copy of this 1972 recording on the Italian Black Saint label. This date shows what a mature sound he had right from the begining. He has a pretty handy guitarist in Bruce Johnson, has a bit of a Wes Montgomery thing going on. Quote
Afric Pepperbird Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 It is great. I like some of the subsequent Rava's with John Abercrombie a tad better, but Giro is a fine one. Quote
imeanyou Posted February 19, 2011 Author Report Posted February 19, 2011 It is great. I like some of the subsequent Rava's with John Abercrombie a tad better, but Giro is a fine one. 'The Pilgrim and the Stars' is a stunner. Abercrombie fits in well with the Milesian concepts that pre-occupied Rava at that point in his career. Rava doesn't seem to make many duds, and ECM have always served trumpeters well, think Stanko and Wheeler. Quote
