On the slim chance that someone here might be able to help, here's my query:

I recently purchased a new flat screen monitor for my Windows XP PC. It has an optimum resolution of 1600x900 but when I try to set this resolution it is NOT one of the options available and so I have to set it lower. I have loaded all the latest drivers for both the monitor (an AOC 2043F) and the graphics controller (an Intel 82845G)but to no avail.

Any suggestions as to how I can get this to work?

The video card in the computer probably doesn't output at that high of a resolution, check the specs and see what the max output is.

Thanks for getting back to me Shawn. I'm no expert, so do you know where would I be able to find the spec for the video card in the control panel?

Just google search the name of the video card, there should still be a specs page available on the manufacturers website.

Might perhaps be a driver issue. Had an XP machine a couple years ago that I had to have reloaded from scratch (nasty virus that did a lot of damage, and a full re-install was the only solution). The default drivers with XP didn't have the screen dimensions for my monitor (though they were there when the machine came factory installed).

Not to say that I'm sure that's the issue here, but there's a chance it could be a software issue, and possibly not hardware related.
