nonagenerian dave has cancelled a detroit festival perfomance.

does anyone have word on his health issues?

I can't find the blurb the Detroit Jazz Fest. sent out -- it was up on my Facebook page at some point. From what I recall it mentioned Brubeck's doctors are advising him not to take long car rides or to travel too much. You'll notice his upcoming scheduled appearances are all East Coast affairs (nearer his home). Dave's an ol' guy!

I wish Dave good health and to play on (knowing, naturally, that 90 is not 30). I also wish Lee Konitz and the great Gil Noble, a true American hero, speedy recoveries.

i heard that Dave was at the Newport Jazz Festival but was unable to get out of his car because of the torrential rains and the possible risk involved.

According to his website, Brubeck has canceled all of his performances and it taking a medical hiatus for 6 months. Here's wishing him a speedy recovery.

we all know how hard it is traveling these days, even if you're relatively young. playing your instrument is the easy part! i'm sure it's very difficult for his beautiful wife as well. bless them both.
