Big Wheel Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 http://www.npr.org/series/90611896/live-at-the-village-vanguard Live Now: Fabian Almazan Trio In Concert (2) (13)Partner Content from WBGOThe 27-year-old pianist and composer performs with his jazz trio and string quartet. Watch live. I can reliably inform everyone that this guy isn't any good. He couldn't even steal my chair in the high school big band when he was 16 and I was 18.* *joke, of course. Dude was purely a classical pianist and didn't try to start improvising until late that same year. He is now a beast and my main accomplishment is 2000 posts on some jazz chat board. Quote

He is now a beast and my main accomplishment is 2000 posts on some jazz chat board. i'm somehow not comfortable with having more and more classical players dipping their toes into the jazz waters. personally, i love that style of music, but can't help but feeling that much jazz is evolving into highly arranged chamber music, drawing room music. (fabian's treatment of a movement from a shostakovich string quartet was spellbinding). Edited October 13, 2011 by alocispepraluger102 Quote
