Audiophile magazines

Back in my youth, I subscribed to Stereo Review. Recently, just to see what's going on in that world, I subscribed to its successor, Sound + Vision. I'm struck by how dumbed-down the writing is, as if it's tailored for an audience that lacks the patience to read anything longer than brief snippets. Does anyone here read any of the audiophile magazines, and can you recommend any?

Although I'm interested in hi-fi, the magazines are filled with endless hype and "pay to play" reviews to be taken seriously. Finding the nuggets of fact and candor takes some work. I prefer online sources, audio shows, trusted dealers and my own ears for hi-fi info. Having said all this, if you take them as fantasy, then they can be fun.

I get industry news, new product awareness and a small selection of record reviews from Stereophile. For some strange reason (momentum?) I still subscribe to The Absolute Sound!

I subscribe to Stereophile simply because it's cheap - about $1 an issue - and for a bit of entertainment. I put no stock into what pimps write.
