David Ayers Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oto-Sonore/dp/B005ILLG3G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322342150&sr=8-1 Will be good. BTW I notice most of the threads in New Releases are about work by dead artists. Oh and this looks good too: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sketches-Ballads-Full-Blast-Friends/dp/B005ILLG4K/ref=mb_oe_a Also on vinyl. Quote

David Ayers Posted November 27, 2011 Author Report Posted November 27, 2011 (edited) It was good, so it should be good Was that part of the tentet concerts (I was there only for the middle one), or was it a separate gig? It's also on LP and there seem to be under 40 minutes of music. Anyway I love those Sonore records and I love those musicians, so I am most definitely in. It was the opening set on one of the Tentet evenings (hence short duration) or at least that's my assumption as I'm not aware of that line-up playing Oto at another time. It was highly concentrated music-making and I'd suggest the shorter running time might suit the music Quote

That said I'll get the CD. I do like the 'interplay' of this trio, if that word is not a cliche. Unlike a conventional sax/bass/drums type trio where the roles are defined and somewhat hierarchical even where the roles have been 'liberated' according to free jazz models, this trio is even more about negotiation and collective composition. Oh and deferring to Brotzmann from time to time of course... Quote
Leeway Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 I have the "Sketches and Ballads" LP and totally dig it. Excellent production values. I posted this album in the Vinyl section a little while back. Looking forward to the Cafe Oto release. Quote
