Stonewall15 Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 I am looking for an SACD player. Many DVD players say they can play SACDs but I wonder if they mean Hybrid SACDs where they play only the CD layer, not the SACD layer. How can I tell? What I am looking for is a reasonably-priced player that will play true SACD, as well as hybrids. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) If they say they'll play SACDs, they mean they will play the SACD layer. Look for the SACD logo on the packaging or as a decal/sticker on the machine itself. Most if not all of the latest Sony Blu-ray players will play SACD discs. If you don't yet have a Blu-ray player, that's a recommended route because BLU-RAY IS GREAT. I'm not sure what a "reasonably priced" model really is. If you're willing to buy a music only machine that will last and deliver excellent sound, I'd recommend the Sony SCD-XA5400ES which is supposedly back in production again, or the Denon DCD-A100(a 100th anniversary flagship player that is built like a tank; no longer in production, but may be found in closeout prices). I've had both of these (have the Denon now, which I prefer). These players are 1000 or more in cost though. Edited August 28, 2012 by jazzbo Quote
