Female jazz instrumentalists

Recommended Posts

I notice a tendency that follows female jazz musicians, esp those who play horns, and that is, when they solo they usually receive huge amounts of applause. Sometimes it really doesn't seem to equal the quality of the performance...but of course I recognize the relationship between performance and acceptance as subjective.

When I witness this, It strikes me as patronizing. I wonder how it makes female soloists feel.

Sure, we aren't supposed to care whether the audience claps or not; we ourselves know if we played well, etc.

But I would imagine that it would get tiresome and almost embarrassing.

Just a thought.
