Justin V Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Chuck Israels is currently raising funds for a Bill Evans tribute. Based on what I've heard of Israels, on record and with his orchestra in Detroit last year, it's a project that I'm proud to support. BeBop Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 I had the good fortune to study with Mr. Israels for a couple of years - way back when. A great experience. I'm in. Quote
BeBop Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 I was reading the Peter Pullman, Bud Powell bio and it reminded me that Israels played with Bud (in addition to Bill Evans), plus with Cecil Taylor/John Coltrane in '58...George Russell. The man has been around. Yet, you look at his picture (or see him) and you wouldn't think. When I knew him - circa 1980 - he looked like he was about 32 years old. And now he looks younger than I. And a notable educator too. Chuck Israels website Quote
Justin V Posted May 23, 2013 Author Report Posted May 23, 2013 (edited) Glad to see that you're a backer. Wow, I didn't realize that he played with Powell. He does look great for his age, and his playing is still impeccable. We're fortunate to have so many noteworthy bassists who became prominent in the '50s and '60s still with us. I'm off to listen to this one, with Israels and Arnie Wise: Edited May 23, 2013 by Justin V Quote
