Can't have played that in 20 years - what a delightful piece. Wears its Wagner on its sleeve but also has the feel of Wunderhorn era Mahler. Really enjoyed it.

I didn't know Gruenberg, so I looked him up.  This concerto was commissioned by Heifetz in 1944, premiered by Ormandy in Philadelphia and recorded by Monteux in 1945.

Gruenberg did a lot of film work in Hollywood from 1939-1950 had several Academy Award nominations.  He was an uncredited contributor to the score for John Ford's classic Western "Stagecoach."

Thnx for the hint reg my "mishit"  - as being forced to write via mobile phone currently  the so called "autocorrection" changed the context to concerto - without any reason .... but staying with the Piano Concerto - Aimard is here on top of his game too ...
