JSngry Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 the drummer is playing a Weber kettle with brushes, nothing else, so, what's the point of that, going for the hipster backyard demographic? "kettle drums"? Any endorsement better than none? I don't get it other than as that wink-wink irony thing, and really, gotta do better than that these days. Truthfully, a Big Green Egg would have maybe made me stay for the ong. Quote
robertoart Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 The bass player lives in Tasmania and has his own Art slash Music festival. They are still just an old hipster backyard Pop band to me. They were precursors of a certain kind of rural downtown aesthetic I suppose. However the bass player is a very accomplished player of a Japanese instrument these days...maybe a Shakahatchi?? something like that anyway.... Quote
JSngry Posted February 24, 2016 Author Report Posted February 24, 2016 Just wasn't sure why this needed to be a stand in for any kind of instrument, not particularly. The "why not?" period has not completely passed me by, but that's a starting point now, not an ending point. Although "the guys on the Weber forum" are enjoying it! http://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?64054-Weber-kettle-played-like-a-drum-by-Violent-Femmes-on-Late-Show-with-Stephen-Colbert Quote
robertoart Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) It's probably the bass players barbecue that he bought over with him from Tasmania. Or 'barby' as we say in Oz. Tasmania has become a haven for what I refer to as 'excess Academics'. They were probably having a barby in Tassie and jammin without a drum kit close to hand. I bet that's where they got the idea.
