mrjazzman
As you can see I'm not here often. I visit usually when I need some info from all you aficionados and connoisseurs. I may have written about this recently, not sure. I have absolutely fallen in love with Cory Weeds. I have all the titles in his brief discography. Is there any info re: his next CD release. IMHO, as far as hardbop in 2016, he's at the top of the list. On at least one of the cuts on Condition Blue: The Music Of Jackie McLean, he sounds as good or maybe even better than Jackie does on the originals. (am I losing my mind LOL) His ideas are fluid and coherent, seamless. I just looked at his touring schedule, can anybody tell me the next time he will be in the Lower 48 preferably the West Coast, or am I going to have to book a flight to Vancouver or New York. Thanks. John Tapscott
Yes, my fellow Canadian Cory Weeds is a fine player and a very enthusiastic hard bopper. Plus his label Cellar Live has largely taken over from the now dormant Sharp Nine and Reservoir labels in recording many of today's top straight ahead and hard bop musicians. I'm very much looking forward to his upcoming release featuring David Hazeltine and Joe Magnarelli. Samples now on line at cellarlive.com If you like Cory Weeds you might want to check out tenor player Steve Kaldestad. This is one of my favorite Weeds recordings:
