New Movie on Lee Morgan

I saw this in Manhattan Friday night....it's called "I called him Morgan"   It's as much about the woman who killed Morgan as it is about him so your mileage may vary.

Lots of great clips (mostly from the Jazz Messengers and I had seen most of them before) and it is great to be reminded of what a tremendous musician he was.

Getting excellent reviews. Actually opens in my town on Apr. 7.

I am glad the film is well reviewed but I have to say a lot of the film is about his murderer and it is quite sympathetic to her....so I would guess some folks might not be too thrilled about that.

I'm bursting to see this movie - hopefully it will end up on Amazon Prime and get a decent regional UK run.

Remember buying the 'Memorial Album' as a cutout back in the day, hearing the story of the Slugs' murder and hoping that one day that the full story would come out. Looks like it finally has - nearly 40 years after I thought that..

As I recall, the Slugs murder gets a pretty full coverage in Lee Morgan: His Life, Music and Culture by Tom Perchard (who posts here under the name of umum cypher).
