gvopedz Posted September 3, 2019 Report Posted September 3, 2019 Has anyone ever heard of French singer Yves Montand being backed by Jimmy Giuffre on clarinet, Jim Hall on guitar, Bob Castella on piano, Al McKibbon on bass, Mel Lewis on drums, Tommy Shepherd on trombone, and Frank Moracco on accordion, for a few shows in Los Angeles in November 1959? brownie Posted September 4, 2019 Report Posted September 4, 2019 Jimmy Giuffre appeared along with Billy Byers on trombone, Al Hall on bass, Jim Hall on guitar, Charles Persip on drums, Nick Perrito on accordion and Bob Castella on piano when Montand sang in NY in September 1959. The concerts were coproduced by Norman Granz. Not familiar with any official recording of these. Quote
gvopedz Posted September 4, 2019 Author Report Posted September 4, 2019 I had a chance to check the archives of the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. Three weeks of shows were scheduled in New York. A reviewer for the Los Angeles shows wrote: "Recruited in America, the musicians - including the inevitable accordionist - succeeded in capturing a thoroughly Continental jazz flavor." Quote
