The Guardian is reporting that the photographer Sebastião Salgado just passed away at the age of 81. https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2025/may/23/sebastiao-salgado-photographer-death-legacy

I think I first encountered his work at the International Center of Photography (ICP) where I think they were displaying the photos that made up the book Migrations, but I could certainly be mistaken.  I believe I saw one more retrospective that focused on his photos of workers or maybe it was his Genesis project.  

After that I mostly experienced his work in oversized books from the library, though I did pick up the book Africa.  I think there were a couple of smaller sized editions of some of his books, and perhaps I should have considered getting one or two of those, though reviews have said they really are quite small and don't really do his photos justice.
