  8. Hi All, I'm a member of the forum from several years ago; it's been a very long time, I hope my shameless reappearance to hawk these Mosaic sets doesn't ruffle any feathers. To keep it short, I've decided to begin selling off some significant chunks of my jazz collection. Rather than go the eBay route, I'm hoping that at least some of it can find good homes with members here. I'm starting with several Mosaic CD sets....the list is below. All are in NM or EX+ condition with no spine tears, booklet wrinkles, etc. I'll pay USPS in CONUS, reasonable offers also considered. I've sold to others on the board in the "old days", and can provide references if desired. Please PM me with any questions or wish list items. If anyone has any issue with my posting this as a non-active member please let me know and I'll remove the post immediately. Thanks for looking. 9. Last night at the Jazz Standard: Oliver Lake Geri Allen Reggie Workman Andrew Cyrille Great stuff.
  10. I loved the Super Elys (the purple one) when I ran it on my P3. I was worried about stylus wear so I bought a new Elys 2 as the Super was discontinued. The Rega rep I e-mailed swore it would sound the same as the Super, and would be a better tracker (my one complaint about the Super). I found the harshness of the Elys 2 to be unbearable. I had the same question about break-in time but decided I don't have the patience to wait. I still find it a little odd that the carts would be that much different, but after much tweaking of the setup I just couldn't get it to be tolerable in my system. I've since purchased a Shure VX15VxMR and find it to be pure heaven with the vintage phono stage in my trusty old Marantz 7. Try a Dynavector 10x5. I used one on the P3 for a while and it was a great match until I switched to the vintage preamp, which doesn't seem to like MC carts.
  11. When you switch from a MM to a MC that is what you got: better sound. That's a good rule of thumb, but YMMV greatly depending on your phono preamp. Matching to your phono pre should be an important consideration when selecting a cartridge.
  12. Any Vacuum Tube nuts here?

I am also a tube nut. About a year ago I replaced the output tubes on my trusty McIntosh MC75's with NOS GE 6550A's. It was a big improvement over the Svetlana "Winged-C"s that I put in when the amps were refurbished. My preamp is a vintage Marantz 7, with what I believe are the original Telefunken 12AX7's. The day one goes I will cry. Guitar amp is a Mesa Boogie Mark III, running some generic Russian 6L6's. I've never spent a ton of time trying different tubes in the Boogie, it just seems to sounds great no matter. The few times I've bought tubes I've had great luck with Richard at Leeds Radio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's tough to get him on the phone, but he answers e-mail promptly, and his warehouse is a trip. Boxes and boxes and boxes of tubes of any variety, and just about any other vintage part you can think of. Reasonable prices also......Leeds Radio.
  13. Scratches

This is the way to go IMO. Rip the CD's to a hard drive (or two) in FLAC format using good ripping software (like EAC), tag them as you go using a good tagging program (like MP3 Tag), and get a playback device with a decent user interface (like a Squeezebox). If you go the extra step and buy an external DAC for around $1500-$2000, you will have a higher fidelity, more reliable digital front end than CD players costing $5K or more. Back the files up periodically to a second hard drive, put the CD booklets in Case Logic CD wallets on the shelf, and put the CD's with their cases in the storage closet. That's what I did, and the better sound, freed up space in my apartment, and not having to hunt around on the shelves for a particular CD is fantastic.
  14. Hard drive recommendations wanted.

My collection of 900+ CD's now lives as FLAC files on two 250GB Western Digital My Book Pro Edition drives. These are backed up to a single 750GB Seagate. I highly recommend the WD's. Near silent and run very cool. Solid as a rock so far.....
