  1. Jones/Lewis Mosaic is gone! I will be without email access for two weeks starting tomorrow, so if you're interested in anything, please don't expect a response until June 1 or so. Thanks.
  2. Here's another plug for DLP. I have a 67" Samsung DLP and the picture is incredible. No, you can't hang a DLP, but you will get a lot more for your money. The only other piece of advice I would have is to buy the TV that has the best screen quality to YOU. Most TVs these days are extremely reliable and will last a long time, but only you can be the judge of the picture quality that looks best to you and meets your needs. Happy shopping!
  3. Never had either before...Never even heard of 'em, now that you mention it.
  4. I hate cake, and by extension, I hate Ace of Cakes. Actually, I hate the show more than cake itself. Don't like the characters or the premise behind the show. I watch Food Network more than any other channel, but I'd rather sit in solitary confinement than be subjected to this show.
  5. I like the idea of the set, but then I wonder about portability. His DVD-As were great for me because I can listen to them in my car. The HDCD-encoded CDs have been great, too...and if they included DVDs with 96/24 stereo, so much the better--I can make DVD-As from that as well. But, if there's neither CDs nor DVDs in this set, then there's no portability--a huge blow for me, since I'm rarely able to listen to music at home these days.
  6. Thad Jones, Woody Shaw, Clifford Brown, and Dexter's "A Swingin' Affair" have all been sold.
  7. Weather Report, Jazz in Paris box, Chico and Bud Shank Mosaics are gone.
  8. The Curtis Fuller Mosaic and Ornette Coleman JRVG are gone.
  9. Also, if this was going to be good yard sale fare, you live in a very different neighborhood than I do! I was actually going to invite MN residents on this board to come over and check out everything...and may still do that, depending on what's left. I wouldn't expect there to be lots of jazz fans randomly visiting yard sales looking for good stuff...not here, not anywhere.
  10. Nessa box is gone. Bud Shank and Chico Hamilton Mosaics are on hold. One more item to add: Jazz in Paris box set: contains discs 1-76, but not that one that was pulled for legal reasons. Near mint condition. $340
  11. Mrs. vibes and I have decided we have too much stuff, so we're going to sell a bunch of it at a yard sale this coming Saturday. I was going to sell some music at the yard sale, but thought I'd check here and see if anyone wanted it first. All items are CDs, not LPs. Prices include shipping to a US address. I may be willing to ship to a foreign address, but the buyer must pay full shipping charges, and that's very expensive right now. Payment via PayPal only. Here's the list: MOSAICS The Complete Blue Note Art Blakey's 1960 Jazz Messengers #1510/7500. Mint condition--each CD only played one time. $185 OTHER STUFF Dizzy Reece - Blues in Trinity. Connoisseur series edition. Some minor shelf wear and scratches on the disc, which don't affect playback. $10 Keely Smith Swings Basie-style with Strings - Advance copy version. $3 Ramsey Lewis Trio - Sound of Christmas. 1989 mastering. Small crack in CD case, CD and insert are in mint condition. CD only played once. $5 Stan Getz with Cal Tjader. 1990 OJC. Case has some shelf wear, CD is mint. $4 Dexter Gordon - Gettin' Around. 1987 mastering. Jewel case is near mint, CD is mint. $5 The Swinging Guitar of Tal Farlow. Verve by Request edition in digipack. Case has some shelf wear, CD is mint. $5 Stan Getz & the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band - Change of Scenes. Verve Elite Edition, sealed in shrinkwrap. $20 Chet Baker Quartet featuring Russ Freeman. West Coast Classics edition, sealed in shrinkwrap. $15 Alice in Chains - Greatest Hits. Single-layer SACD with stereo and multichannel mixes. Includes slipcase. $10 Rob Thomas - ...something to be. Cutout DualDisc includes DVD-Audio mixes. $8 Send me a PM if interested in any item. Thanks!
  12. Good advice--thanks! Are you an opthalmologist or optometrist or...?
  13. The prescription drops I only have to use until they run out. I expect they'll be gone within a week. The regular drops should be needed for "a few months." According to the doctors I consulted, eye drops may be needed much longer in "rare cases." I don't remember the exact number, but it was less than 1%. The doctors with whom I spoke did talk about the long term effectiveness of Lasik, and did tell me that glasses or contacts might be needed again as I got into my 40s. This is natural and is caused by the hardening of the corneas, which tends to cause some nearsightedness. As for my eyes being worse later on than if I had never had Lasik at all, I did not hear this from any of the doctors and have not seen it in any of the literature I read online or in the doctors' offices. I expect that if that were true, it would have been in the informed consent forms I signed prior to the surgery. I would say that each of the doctors (three of them) I talked to did a very good job of giving me a balanced view of the benefits and risks of Lasik, including statistics on the numbers of people that have post-operative complications, including permanent dry eyes and halos (both of these problems are common right after the surgery, but go away for the vast majority of patients--I currently have both problems). I was sure to also read up on Lasik online before having the surgery. Based on what I heard, read and have been told by friends who had had it done, I decided to go forward with it. If memory serves, the original Lasik procedure was developed in the late 90s. As such, we may not really understand the long-term effects of Lasik yet. That's always going to be a risk with new medications and surgical procedures, I guess.
  14. Anyone else here had Lasik eye surgery? I had it on Thursday afternoon, and I'm pretty amazed at the results. I'd been wearing glasses or contacts for ~20 years, so it's great to not have to use them any more. The morning after my surgery, I was surprised that I could see the time on the clock unassisted. I had a follow-up eye doctor appointment a few hours later, and the doctor confirmed that I had 20/20 vision in one eye and 20/25 in the other, with both eyes expected to improve in the coming weeks. Downsides? Having to put eye drops in my eyes at least every hour. I hate eye drops. I have three different kinds--one regular, two prescription. The regular ones are required every hour; the prescription ones are required four times a day. The whole procedure didn't even take 10 minutes. Modern technology is amazing.
  15. I've always kind of liked her. She's pretty, but not in the traditional sense. It's unfortunate the poll was done. Who cares who the unsexiest woman in the world is? For each of us, it's probably someone we know in our every-day life anyway: a co-worker, neighbor, etc.
