Got the SHM CD version from Yamano Music in Ginza today. A birthday gift to myself. They had plenty of stock there. Can’t listen to it until my return to Australia, I am afraid.

An article in The Guardian:

"he died peacefully in his sleep at home in Wuppertal"
Sorry, posted simultaneously.

This is sad news. No other artist meant as much to me as Peter Brötzmann. I will miss him dearly. RIP

I just subscribed for Vols. 2-11. No-brainer for me. If I'm not going to spend $225 on this, what music would I spend it on instead? This stuff is my musical wheelhouse as much as anything is. And if I am not pleased for some unforeseeable reason, shouldn't be a difficult resell, with the limited quantities being produced. Plus it gives Matt & Co. seed money for this and other projects - this music needs to be preserved and available. Clear win in every aspect for me.
I wasn't sure whether I should subscribe. Your arguments won me over. Plus the potential to save on postage with combined international shipping.
Moderator, Would it make sense to combine this thread with the one for the first volume to just have a single thread for the whole PAPA series?

The Horace Tapscott Quintet CD on the Mr Bongo label states "Licensed from Flying Dutchman Archives". I just read that Bob Thiele's son (Bob Thiele Jr.) is reviving the Flying Dutchman label. I wonder whether he owns the rights to the label's back catalog as well.

Very much looking forward to this set.
Interesting article, @romualdo. I am glad Horace Tapscott eventually agreed to record The Giant is Awakened for Flying Dutchman. I love this record, even though Tapscott was apparently not too pleased with the outcome. Jonathan Horwich's IPI release of this record is to die for.

Try to see them whenever they play in Melbourne. Always interesting. The double bill with the Art Ensemble of Chicago was special. My last pre-Covid concert.

Peter Brötzmann turns 80 today! May he enjoy his life in good health.

Yes, through Amazon. Here's an example: https://www.amazon.com/Slice-Top-Hank-Mobley/dp/B000005H1D/
On the page, it states:
This title is manufactured "on demand" when ordered from Amazon.com, using recordable media as authorized by the rights holder. Powered by CreateSpace, this on-demand program makes thousands of titles available that were previously unavailable. For reissued products, packaging may differ from original artwork. Amazon.com’s standard return policy will apply.
Thanks. No such text on the Bensha Swing page. I will update this thread when I receive my order.

Is BN known for selling CDRs?

Didn't Miles Davis crash his Miura (just to buy another one)?
Chet Baker occasionally forgot where he parked his Alfa Romeo (according to his Dutch biographer).
John Carter obviously liked his yellow Porsche but I don't know whether he was a good driver.

The Giuffre "Graz concert received the first authorized release permission by Juanita Giuffre, Carol Goss-Bley and Steve Swallow." The Coltrane recording was licensed from ORF. Looks all pretty legit to me.

Sad to hear this. RIP

I would purchase the Plugged Nickel set again just for the sake of purchasing it again.
You are joking, right?

Is this label still alive? I certainly hope so but I can't load their homepage (uptownrecords.net).

Listening to these records for the first time today. Absolutely brilliant! Worth buying a turntable for this release alone.
