Bill Evans pulls me in hook-line-and-sinker, more so than any other jazz pianist. His work w/ Miles, his early trio work and his later solo stuff remains fresh and alive.

I caught this in the Times and was excited to read it. Great news.

Life is good! The Cubs won and there are rumors that our garbage strike will soon be over!

This hurts. I'm a few blocks away from Wrigley and there's a weird silence.

I seem to recall inexpensive weekend matinees at the Plugged Nickel. B.B. King once appeared on a Sunday afternoon in 1966, a gig that pre-dated his breakthrough at the Filmore. Another stand-out show was Betty Carter at the Quiet Knight, I think it was in '77. It remains one of the most exciting performances I've ever seen.
