Simon Weil
"Nobody knows anything" are the words by William Goldman which made me "look at the world in [a] new...way".

Phillip Roth said the same.
JSngry
They all pretty much say the same 1-5 things, it seems. Assume nothing, reject labels, work hard, work meaningfully to find yourself, and then project past your immediate self. Shouldn't be any surprise in that, if anything's going to work, those things will.

If all artists say the same five things, why are we fascinated -- obsessed even -- by what many of them have to say, either with words or otherwise? I guess....There's the process of getting to where you can say something (which is how I read JS's comment - as about process) - and there's what you say. O.K. That makes sense. There are things that artists say about being artists. And then there are things that artists say when they make their art. Very different things. JSngry
I look at is as infinite variations of a few basic themes. It's a bit inspirational, really, that it all comes down to that, and then goes out all these different ways. I mean, if some guy said, "I never really knew what all this was about until one day the ghost of my Martian grandfather served me a whole raw squirrel doused with balsamic vinegar. That was when I knew what my life was going to be!", hey, that would just be weird, right? I mean, that guy would probably not even be noted, must less quoted, right? LOL Yeah, you're right about that.
