Guy Berger Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 I think he plays, or has played, with Henry Threadgill. Guy Quote
Nate Dorward Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 (edited) Writeup I did is here: http://www.ndorward.com/music/august2005_misc.htm It's a good album albeit in a genre I'm not myself that interested in (I ended up giving my copy to Pete Cherches, who's more into that sort of thing). If it is your sort of thing, then yes check it out. He also works with DD Jackson, though I found the album in question (Sigame) a mixture of the cloying & the garish in the usual DDJ manner. jlhoots Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 About The Monks is better than his newer CD on ZoHo (IMHO). Quote
JSngry Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 I think he plays, or has played, with Henry Threadgill. Guy Indeed. That's how I first came to hear him, on Henry's Pi releases. Threadgill's never worked with a drummer who's turned in less than exceptional performances, and Prieto's work is no exception. Quote
Big Wheel Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 (edited) Has anyone heard this before? I'm thinking about picking it up. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...&cart=359247023 Columna B was the band Prieto played in before he moved to NYC. Mostly Cuban expats. Yosvany Terry's father, Pancho Terry, sat in on chekere. I saw them live at the Stanford Jazz Workshop in 1999, shortly after they arrived in the US. These guys were ridiculous live. I have never seen anything like it before or since. I guess the record was cut after Prieto split, as the credits list a "Josh Jones" in the drum chair. Edited July 2, 2006 by Big Wheel Quote
