  1. Listening now. Great to hear tracks not included in my Capitol Undercurrent Blues album. Love the movie clip with Benny in that moustache!

  7. The first copy of Brilliant Corners I owned was on the British London American label where a single image of Monk, taken from the multiple-image Riverside version, was superimposed on a colour photo of a nightime city street corner, with blurred taillights and traffic lights. It suffered the same fate as G S Russell's album - stolen (clearly, there WAS a "dramatic upsurge in Thelonious's acceptance by the jazz public") and I replaced it with the familiar multi-image Riverside version.

  10. Almost a spin-off from the recent BBC 4 program, 1959: The Year That Changed Jazz! Perhaps the fourth musician in the program, Ornette, was not thought to be marketable!
  11. Kazuo Ishiguro's new book, Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall Very slight stuff as literature, but possibly of interest to board members as it concerns the working lives of musicians. (I've never heard that the author was a working musician, mind you.) Still, not many novels or short story collections contain references to Chet Baker, Sarah Vaughan, Clifford Brown, Joe Pass, Ben Webster, etc!
